Hello. Welcome to Monroe Martial Arts. I started martial arts as an afterthought to a great plan. My husband and 5 year old son needed an activity to do together. I was 8 months pregnant with my fourth child in 5 years and never even thought about myself doing such a thing. I had always been very active; running cross country, track, roller skating for 13 years, got my Registered Nursing degree, raising kids and having a family. Too much to do, too little time, right? Wrong. I found myself there at the school more than any place but home and work. I also found I really liked the people, the classes and the time spent together as a family. I was there anyway so I decided to give it a try too.

That was 17 years ago that I caught the bug; the one constant thing during those years was martial arts. I have 6 kids, all pretty much adults and all of them many different levels of Black Belt. Monroe Martial Arts is truly a family activity.

I was chosen as a green belt to enter into the Assistant Instructor Program and found very quickly to have a knack with little ones. I helped develop the Little Dragon, Little Ninja and Junior Black Belt Prep programs. Through the years, I never stopped training and continue to this day toward my goal of 5th Degree Master Black Belt by 50 years old. My students and parents know me to be very strict and disciplined. I cannot be a slacker and expect better of my family and students; therefore, I train. We still train and teach as a family and will make as many disciplined, self-confident Black Belts as possible. We are a Black Belt school.
